“Site Unseen: L.A. on Film” with Thom Andersen, Allison Anders, and Marc Wanamaker

During the 20th century, Los Angeles rapidly evolved into a vibrant urban laboratory for architectural innovation. With the support of
enlightened patrons, visionary planners, architects, and engineers were
able to augment the built landscape in bold and often controversial new
dimensions. This two-day symposium, Urban Ambition: Assessing the
Evolution of L.A., analyzes and debates diverse issues related to L.A.’s
rich architectural history, its ongoing transformation, and its
intriguing future.

This symposium is part of the programming for the exhibition
Overdrive: L.A. Constructs the Future 1940–1990, on view at the J. Paul
Getty Museum from April 9 to July 20, 2013.
